Johneé Wilson Named Director of Training at One Common Unity

Washington, DC, February 23, 2024 – One Common Unity (OCU) proudly announces Johneé Wilson as their new Director of Training. Johneé dedicates herself to work at the intersection of global service, youth leadership development, and creative storytelling. She co-designed resiliency models for youth leadership and wellness programs with nonprofits in Abuja and Lagos and returned a year later to monitor and evaluate the fidelity of programming across 60 schools in Nigeria. In 2023, she met with Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister of Education, to understand how free compulsory education may increase matriculation among school-aged youth to reinforce US-Ghana relations within higher education institutions.

Currently, she is the Director of Training at One Common Unity working to strengthen professional development and training programs that deepen relationships with young people, educators, activists, artists, therapists, institutions, and community members in the District of Columbia and nationally.

Prior to her role as the Director of Training she served OCU as a National Training Coordinator and Senior Program Facilitator where she engaged in broad community outreach across the US to invite community members, educators, activists, artists, and therapists beyond the District of Columbia to participate in OCU’s first virtual National Training.  Further, Johneé worked directly with young people to facilitate youth-led campaigns, SEL groups, and Fly By Light programming across DC schools.

Johneé aims to bring young people and those who work closely with youth from margin to center through the design and implementation of viable and feasible workshops, programs, and trainings that empower positive social change.

About One Common Unity

For more than 20 years, One Common Unity’s (OCU) high-impact, holistic programming has engaged over 35,000 youth, families, and educators in the DC area to lead a shift away from violence through in-school and after-school programs, mental health services, citywide campaigns, teacher trainings, family engagement sessions, community concerts, and art showcases.

One Common Unity builds compassionate, healthy communities through the transformative power of music, arts, and peace education. The organization places highly skilled artist-facilitators and mental health therapists in DC schools to improve students’ behavioral health outcomes and provide trauma-informed care.

One Common Unity’s flagship prevention program, Fly By Light, trains the next generation of youth leaders in social-emotional literacy and non-violent communication. The Intention Room, the organization’s innovative model for restorative justice, offers an effective strategy to prevent in- and out-of-school suspensions and disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline.

Founded in 2000 out of concern for the epidemic of violence in Washington, DC, and the United States, today One Common Unity’s arts education and strengths-based youth programming has evolved to offer mental wellness, conflict resolution, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities in safe, culturally appropriate settings.
