Luisa Mariño Garcia

Community-Based Program Manager

Luisa is a licensed and board certified art therapist and visual artist. She is passionate about exploring the offerings of art therapy in community-based projects and initiatives.

Luisa earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts in her home country, Colombia, and a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from The George Washington University. She also completed an online Specialization in Education in the Foundations of Teaching for Learning.

Prior to working at One Common Unity, Luisa worked both independently and in the non-profit and private sectors. While working independently, she partnered with a variety of communities in the DMV area, supporting programs for permanent and transitional housing, incarceration and addiction recovery, teen motherhood groups, Latina moms support circles, among others. In her non-profit experience at Community Advocates for Family and Youth, Luisa‘s work included serving immigrants and refugees, and survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking. She also worked in a private practice, in the Trauma Recovery Center at MPB Group, serving primarily clients who are healing and living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, and Depression.

Prior to being a clinician, Luisa worked as a school art teacher, with students ages 5 to 19, who inspired her to become an art therapist!

In her spare time, Luisa loves spending time with family and friends, as well as spending time outdoors enjoying some fresh air (and even better if it can be with some art-making involved!)
