Cristina Aviles
Intake Coordinator
Cristina grew up in both California and Virginia. She received her B.A. in History with a minor in Psychology at Longwood University. At Longwood University, with a close group of 4 friends, she founded the first Hispanic & Latin Association in 2014. This was the first group on campus to advocate for Latinx students.
She then joined the Peace Corps after undergrad as a Community Economic Development Volunteer on the coast of Colombia, in the town of Mahates which is located about 45 minutes away from Cartagena. While there, she taught financial literature at the local high school and gave entrepreneurship classes to the locals. After her service was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cristina went to work at Adore Children and Family Services as a UAC Intake Coordinator.
At One Common Unity, the pillar of Social Emotional Learning speaks to her the most because she believes that by teaching the community how to comprehend their emotions and how to feel them will demonstrate empathy. She firmly believes that self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness can be skills that people can use to understand others and problem-solve in their everyday lives.
When she is not working, she enjoys reading, dancing, and traveling.
